Cactus Drilling Rig #117 – HKB Photo Studio

On a whim I drove up to this rig while it was drilling just west of Elk City, Oklahoma and ask for permission to photography for stock photo purchases. The "driller" ok'd my request, but required that I stay off of the rig without permission from home office. I was also required to wear a hard hat and steel-toed boots. I was new to digital photography, and a bit clumsy as I worked. But, I got some decent shots, and I believe I can make them better now that my Photoshop work improving.

Offshore oil drillers now looking at Florida’s east coast" TCPalm.com

Offshore oil drillers now looking at Florida's east coast BY JIM WAYMER Florida Today, 11/23/09 at 3:01PM. Wildcat wells may 1 day spring up off the Space Coast. But that's years away & only if the risks, rewards &proper types of rocks align. 5 companies want to scan the S. Atlantic floor for liquid gold anyway. Four plan seismic surveys from Brevard Cty to Maine. Another would search from about southern Georgia to Long Island, NY. While debates for 2010 Legislature centers on the Gulf, drilling off Fla’s east coast, more challenging & costly, may be feasible, industry experts say. Environmentalists see the same risks as drilling off the GulfCoast, but < chance of reward, < oil-friendly geology & several idle exploratory wells drilled a 1/4century ago off Jax. In S. Atlantic, > 70% of estimated 1.38 Bil. barrels of undiscovered, but technically recoverable oil & 14.14 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, > 50 miles from the coast. That’s below 656 to 2,624 ft of water, per MMS.
